Yianni Papoutsis and Scott Collins to donate all proceeds to Meningitis Now
This December Yianni Papoutsis and Scott Collins will publish a limited edition of The MEATliquor Chronicles: Chapter and Verse in celebration of all things meat and liquor. The specially bound copy of the book will come packaged in a bespoke chest containing a julep tin engraved with a unique cocktail recipe and a bottle of Bulleit reserve bourbon signed by Thomas Bulleit. Available to purchase at an RRP of £100 on the MEATliquor website from 1 December, all proceeds will be donated to Meningitis Now, the award-winning charity that has been leading the fight against meningitis for the last 30 years.
With MEATliquor co-founder Yianni Papoutsis having been diagnosed with Meningitis at the age of 17, this is a cause close to their hearts. Losing three toes to necrosis, Yianni attained an appreciation for every moment in his life and has since blazed a demonic trail through the restaurant industry. Each year, there are around 9,000 cases of meningitis in the UK alone and with many of the victims being children it is the disease most feared by parents. The proceeds raised from the sale of the limited edition MEATliquor Chronicles will be used to fund and support the work of dedicated Community Support Officers, who provide care for the thousands of families affected by meningitis.
‘We’re thrilled that a young, vibrant company like MEATliquor, with passion for what it does, also shares our passion – a future where no one dies from meningitis and everybody affected gets the help they need. Partnerships like this are vital in helping us raise awareness and provide ongoing support in hospitals and homes.’ Steve Dayman OBE, founder Meningitis Now.
Starting back in 2009 at the Burning Man festival and the adventures in the original MEATwagon, The MEATliquor Chronicles lays disrespectful waste to the accepted notion of what a cookbook associated with a famous restaurant can and might be. Yes, you will learn how to make perfect homemade burgers and a wealth of other dishes, and yes, you will find cocktail recipes galore. But this is a book with a story and a mission. Yianni and Scott have welcomed Booker Prize-winning author DBC Pierre to help reconstruct their intoxicating and intoxicated journey from South London reprobates to gastronomic enfants terribles. With contributions from a host of bleeding-edge chefs, The MEATliquor Chronicles is the Unholy Cow of all cookery books, and a manifesto of true pleasure.
The MEATliquor Chronicles: Chapter and Verse limited edition is available to buy from the MEATliquor website at an RRP of £100.
