Faber Social welcomes you to Another England in 2014 and an evening of film and literary entertainment.
Last January we welcomed in the New Year with as screening of the now legendary Can House film by Maxy Bianco. A year on and Faber Social is proud to present a sequence of three short films by Maxy in collaboration with Michael Smith, Another England.
What does it mean to belong somewhere, to come from somewhere? The 30-minute Another England film cycle charts life in a town on the edge of nowhere wrestling with destruction, a disappearing history and an uncertain future. These films by one of the great contemporary underground English filmmakers will be complemented by readings three novelists of a sure and international pedigree.
Alan Warner, author of Morvern Caller, and one of the most original and celebrated Scottish novelists of his generation, will read from his forthcoming novel, Their Lips Speak of Mischief. Alan will be joined by Hisham Matar, whose first novel In the Country of Men, was shortlisted for the Booker and Akhil Sharma, whose second novel, Family Life, published later this year by Faber, looks set to be one of the fictional highlights of the year.
